The protection system begins with the Painting Specification
Each anti-corrosion system is defined according to the component or structure, the substrate, the exposure environment, the operating conditions and the performance requirements of the project.
COMMI manages the coating system starting from the requirements of the Painting Specification and the applicable technical documentation, defining surface preparation, coating system, application method and the inspections required.

Protection systems for different service environments
The intended use of the component or structure and the exposure conditions are key factors in defining the anti-corrosion system.
The coating system is selected according to the requirements of the Painting Specification, the characteristics of the substrate and the expected operating conditions.
ONSHORE
Anti-corrosion systems for structures and components exposed to industrial atmospheres, weathering, UV radiation and varying temperature and operating conditions. The coating system is defined according to the corrosivity category and the requirements of the project specification.
OFFSHORE
Multi-coat protective systems for marine and offshore environments, where high performance against humidity, salinity and atmospheric aggressiveness may be required. Depending on the Painting Specification, epoxy primers and intermediate coats may be combined with polyurethane, epoxy-acrylic or polysiloxane topcoats.
SUBSEA
High-build coatings and dedicated systems for pipes, structures and components intended for immersion, defined according to the operating conditions and the expected stresses. Where required by the project, the coating system is also assessed for compatibility with cathodic protection.
UNDERGROUND
Protective systems for buried structures, piping and components, defined according to soil characteristics, exposure conditions and project requirements. Where applicable, the system is also selected taking into account the presence of cathodic protection.
Corrosivity, durability and protection requirements
The definition of anti-corrosion systems takes into account the technical standards referenced in the project specification and the expected exposure conditions.
For applications covered by ISO 12944, the protective system is defined considering the exposure environment, the corrosivity or immersion category, the required durability and any further project requirements.

The exposure category alone does not identify a coating system. The protective system is defined according to the Painting Specification, the corrosivity or immersion category, the required durability and the specified operating conditions.
Thermal Spray – Metallic Coatings
For specific applications COMMI applies metallic coatings by Thermal Spray, using aluminium and Al-Zn alloys, on suitably prepared surfaces.
The system is applied when required by the Painting Specification, according to the service environment and the required performance.
ITP, PQCP and Inspection Traceability
Where required by the project, COMMI prepares ITP/PQCP inspection plans defining the stages to be inspected, the applicable references, the acceptance criteria and how the results are recorded.
The inspections carried out during the work are documented in inspection reports and collected in the contractually required final documentation.
Preparation, Application and Inspection
The anti-corrosion system combines surface preparation, coating application and the inspections specified in the Painting Specification.
Painting Inspection activities verify the different stages of the process and document the results in accordance with the applicable requirements.
